Dr. Jon Roed - Doctor of Chiropractic
Dr. Jon Roed operates as chiropractic physician at DSM Spine+Sport in Urbandale. Dr. Roed received his BA from the University of Iowa in 2008. He then graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University, Minneapolis, College of Chiropractic in 2011. Following graduation, he moved to the Des Moines area and began working on opening DSM Spine+Sport.
Dr. Roed specializes in athletic injury, chronic pain, strength and conditioning return to training, as well as the diagnosis of spinal and extremity conditions. His approach to care includes soft tissue rehab, postural stability work, joint manipulation, and take-home care programs which allow each patient to be involved in their own outcome.
Dr. Roed enjoys using his experience to treat athletes and patients of all types. He works with several area high school and collegiate athletes including NCAA Div I football players and Olympic trial competitors. Outside of work, he loves spending time with his family, his wife Katie, daughter Avery, son Gavin and bearded collie Gandalf. In his free time, Dr. Jon enjoys CrossFit, golf, and vacationing with his family.
Dr. Brooks Newton - Doctor of Chiropractic
Dr. Brooks Newton is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University–College of Chiropractic. He was a former collegiate basketball player and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Southwest Minnesota State University.
Dr. Brooks specializes in the treatment of low back injuries, sciatica, neck pain and headaches through the utilization of myofascial release techniques, chiropractic adjustments, and motor control and mobility exercises.
Additionally, Dr. Brooks has had the opportunity to work with numerous high level athletes from the ranks of the NFL, Crossfit Games, and the NCAA Div I, II, and III. Dr. Brooks also had the opportunity to treat professional athletes in China as a part of a U.S. sports medicine team.
Dr. Brooks enjoys spending time outside of the clinic with his wife Jenni and their three children - Jackson, Lillian, and Braylon.
Dr. Brooke Bear - Doctor of Physical Therapy
Dr. Brooke Bear is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy who graduated from Des Moines University. She attended Iowa State University and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.
Dr. Brooke specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain (low back, neck, and shoulder) as well as TMJ (Temporomandibular) disorders. She is also an expert in body mechanic and movement education.
Additionally, Dr. Brooke loves to utilized dry needling with her patient care.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Brooke enjoys spending time with her new baby, Brynn, and her husband, Mike. She is also enjoys fishing, boating, swimming and spending time outdoors.
Dr. Sydney Reif - Doctor of Physical Therapy
Dr. Sydney Reif is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy who graduated from Des Moines University. She attended the University of Jamestown and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She was also a collegiate softball player and played 4 years as a Scholastic All American.
Dr. Sydney specializes in low back, hip, knee and shoulder injuries as well as further training pelvic health disorders. This includes pre and post partum care, incontinence, diastasis recti, painful intercourse and all things women's health.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Sydney enjoys spending time with her husband, Alex and son Aiden, and golden retriever, Rya. She enjoys running half marathons, weight lifting and anything outdoors.
Her guilty pleasure is baking competitions on The Food Network and has a tendency to bake too often.
Dr. Marlie Maanum - Doctor of Physical Therapy
Dr. Marlie Maanum is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy who graduated from the University of North Dakota. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a Health Emphasis.
Dr. Marlie likes to work with a variety of age ranges to keep her days busy, with special interest in vertigo, neck, low back, hip, and knee injuries. Marlie utilizes a variety of manual therapy techniques, and rehabilitative exercises well as incorporating education into each session to get patients back to their pain-free life.
Marlie has specialized training in dry needling and vertigo/concussion care.
Marlie enjoys spending long weekends back home on the family farm with her two nieces and nephews. You can find her playing volleyball and softball in the summers, as well as training for triathlon.
Nicole Baier - Office Manager
Nicole Baier joined our team as Office Manager in April of 2024.
She’s the friendly voice and face you will find at the front desk most days. She enjoys chatting with all the patients and is dedicated to providing the best patient care possible.
On the weekends, you can usually find her on a soccer, football, or baseball field catching on of her kids many games or reading a good book. She also enjoying traveling with her family, husband Neil, daughter Camdyn, and son Jace, and cheering on the Hawkeyes and Chiefs!
Kara Findley - Front Desk Staff
Kara Findley is the newest addition to our Spine+Sport team! You will find her at the front desk twice a week.
As a long time patient, Kara is excited to be on the other side of the desk to help ensure current patients get the amazing experience and care that she has always received here.
On the days Kara is not at the office, you can find her exploring new playgrounds with her 3 year old, Lyla, cheering on her 7 year old, Emma at dance and soccer, watching old sitcoms with her husband, David, taking her rescue pup, Bonnie for long walks, and Powerlifting.
